Tumbatu Cultural Village Tour

Overview

Tumbatu Island lies off the north-west coast of Zanzibar. There are several 14th Century mosque ruins and some 40 stone houses of the Shiraz people, built in the 12th Century. Island is based on the north east coast of Zanzibar. Tumbatu people are one of the 3 tribes that inhabit the archipelago. Great place to explore traditional life of Tumbatu village and farm. All tourists need a permit from the village elder at a $5 donation for the people living on the island. Tour guide can take you to some of the villages and the farm in the area or just enjoy the pristine white beaches and the marine life in the area. You will pass women in the water, surrounding the small fish with their net or collecting the crabs and clams on the beach. This trip is a rare opportunity to experience something really authentic.
